Conduits Technologies, Inc. Releases Pocket Slides 1.2 for the Windows
Powered Pocket PC 2002
TALLAHASSEE - December 6, 2001 - Conduits Technologies, Inc. announced
today the release of Pocket Slides 1.2, a fully featured presentation
solution for the Windows Powered Pocket PC 2002 Software.
Pocket Slides enables users to create, view or give presentations using
a mobile device. Existing presentations from Microsoft® PowerPoint® may
be copied to the device with the aid of the drag-and-drop conversion
that Pocket Slides offers. Closely mirroring the functionality of
Microsoft® PowerPoint®, Pocket Slides incorporates a myriad of creative
animations, transitions, varied fonts, text colors, and shapes.
Pocket Slides marks the first occasion for users of Pocket PC 2002 to
give a presentation using solely their Pocket PC device. With the use
of a peripheral VGA card attached to the Pocket PC, Pocket Slides
enables the device to connect with a projector system, so that
presenters do not need to lug their laptops into conferences.
Opening a presentation presents the user with a choice of three viewing
modes: Normal Mode (overview of current slide), Slide Sorter Mode
(thumbnail list), and Slide Show Mode (transitions, animations,
annotations).
Normal Mode demonstrates an overview of the current slide. A view of the
slide image, a textual outline of the slide contents, and the speaker
notes for the slide are all shown. In this mode, the user may perform
edits to the presentation, such as editing text, or adding new shapes.
The user may tap-and-hold on the slide image or an individual shape to
have a pop-up menu appear with functions relating to the selected
object, such as: "Edit Text" or "Animation Settings." One may also copy
the text of the slide for pasting into a Word document or an Email.
Slide Sorter Mode presents the user with a thumbnail list of the slides
in the presentation. With this list, one may show or hide slides,
reorder slides or adjust transition and animation effects on the slides.
The Slide Sorter also features the ability to show animation previews of
each slide, as it would look like during a presentation.
Slide Show Mode is active when the user is presenting a slide show. In
this mode, the user experiences all transitions and animations in the
presentation - including the option to make annotations to the slides.
Pocket Slides supports the Voyager VGA PCMCIA and CompactFlash Cards,
and will simultaneously output the presentation onto the Pocket PC and
the VGA device. Slide Show Mode allows the Pocket PC to hook-up to a
monitor or projector thereby used to give presentations to an audience.
Pocket Slides also supports the attachment of a serial mouse or remote
pointing tool to the Pocket PC, thereby enabling the speaker to be a
distance away from the Pocket PC while presenting. Support for infrared
remotes is new for version 1.2, thus avoiding the need for serial
cables. By using any standard household infrared remote control, the
user may press any button to step through the presentation.
During a presentation, Pocket Slides can optionally rotate the display
of the slide on the device; the user is presented with a 320x240 view of
their presentation on their Pocket PC screen, while the output to the
VGA card is done in the VGA resolution, up to 1024x768. The device
display and the VGA displays are independent, so the user may choose to
display the speaker notes on the device, and the presentation on the VGA
output.
Presentations may be created on the device itself, or existing
Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentations may be converted from the desktop.
The conversion process for opening Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentations
is designed to be as seamless as possible. Pocket Slides installs with
an ActiveSync file filter that will convert from PowerPoint® format to
Pocket Slides format when the user drags a PowerPoint® presentation to
their device. Future versions of Pocket Slides will allow for reading
PowerPoint® files directly, and will be a free upgrade for registered
users. When creating a presentation on the device, users may start with
a blank layout, or choose from several layouts contained in the Pocket
Slides Template Pack. In either case, the user may edit the
presentation fully.
The editing capability of Pocket Slides allows the user to tailor a
presentation to their audience on-the-go, or to create one without the
need of a desktop computer. After converting an existing presentation
or creating a new one, the user may add or delete slides; add, delete,
or edit shapes and text on slides; and edit the properties of the
presentation such as animation settings and custom slide shows. Pocket
Slides can then save these changes for later use.
New for version 1.2 is the "reverse conversion" feature. After editing
a presentation on the device, the user may convert the Pocket Slides
document (.CPT) back into PowerPoint format (.PPT). Pocket Slides
converts the files when the user performs a drag-and-drop operation in
ActiveSync from the device to the desktop. Reverse conversion can also
be applied to presentations that were created solely on the device, or
from a template on the device.
