TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA, August 13, 1999 -- Conduits Technologies
Inc. released the final version of PalmPlayer 1.0 today, an
MP3 player for Windows CE Palm-size PCs, that uses the XAudio
MPEG Audio Engine licensed from MPEGTV.
PalmPlayer includes a rich array of features necessary for
full audio enjoyment on Palm-size PCs not found
on other players. PalmPlayer disables the auto-shutoff
feature of Windows CE, which normally helps with
conserving battery usage, but can interrupt extended
listening sessions.
PalmPlayer can also shut off the LCD display for some
supported devices, such as Casio's E-100 and E-500
series devices, as well as the Hewlett Packard
Jornada 420 series Palm-size PCs, extending
the playback time even further. Conduits was able
to achieve well over three hours of playback on an
E-100 series machine, with all the features enabled,
playing a CD-quality MP3 in stereo.
As with previous public beta releases, PalmPlayer supports
a fully skinnable interface. With PalmPlayer's skin
engine authors can define how they want the program
to look as well as how it should function, by showing
where buttons and components should go as well as their
appearance. PalmPlayer comes bundled with a skin
designed by PalmSizeMedia, an internet property
at http://www.palmsizemedia.com/.
PalmPlayer also has tight interaction with the
Palm-size PC hardware buttons (for volume control,
play, pause, stop, and track navigation)
as well as full playlist support. PalmPlayer has a
fullscreen display with the option of showing the
taskbar.
PalmPlayer 1.0 is available for a 15-day trial
from http://www.conduits.com/ce/player/, where the user
can download and try it out unabridged for the
evaluation period. Documentation and a skin library
are also available for download. PalmPlayer can be purchased
from CEShopper (http://www.ceshopper.com/) for $9.95.
Conduits Technologies Inc. (http://www.conduits.com/)
develops a wide array of products for Windows CE,
including PalmBrowser (an online/offline web browser for
P/PC), TaskSwitcher, and PalmKeys, and several open source
efforts, such as CoPilot and PalmFlash for the Palm-size PC.
